The Havelock Boys and Girls Club will have a live viewing of the launch of the national Great Futures Campaign at 3 p.m. Thursday at the club on Webb Boulevard.
The national kickoff takes place at Times Square in New York.
The goal of the campaign is to focus on a need for increased access for youth to afterschool and summer programs, according to a release from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Coastal Carolina. Through the campaign, the clubs seek to ensure that every child has access to a safe place after school and during the summer where they can build knowledge, skills and behaviors that will help them succeed. About one in four children leave school with no place to go, putting their safety at risk, according to the release.
The local group has clubs in Havelock, Beaufort and Morehead City that serves about 750 children ages 6 to 18. Another 400 are served through community outreach.
