Letter: Sanders appreciates event in his honor

I would like to thank all of those involved in the celebration that was held in my honor. For those who made a monetary contribution to make the event free for all, I am humbled. Thanks is not a sufficient word to describe my feelings for you all, but it is the best I can do. Just be assured that your generosity has impacted me deeply.

To Danny, Stephanie and Pam, and probably many others who worked tirelessly to make sure the event was first class in every way, I thank you. To those kind enough to attend, I will forever remember you. To those who expressed regrets for being unable to attend, I hold your friendship dearly.

I thank the citizens of Havelock for allowing me to serve as one of your elected officials for 29 years. This is something I will also cherish. Being able to serve this community in a volunteer capacity for 40 years has been a most rewarding experience. I have dear friendships and memories that will last me a lifetime.

Growing up in Havelock was a blessing and living here continues to be one. I thank my family for supporting me and allowing me to do what I have loved doing. Without all of your support, I could not have served these many years.

Havelock, thanks for the memories!

Jimmy Sanders, former mayor, Havelock
