Let me get this straight: We, the citizens of Havelock, are asked to support the purchase of this track of land located at Carolina Pines and thereby provide recreational facilities for residents of Craven County rather than the taxpaying residents of Havelock.
It has been reported many times that the residents of Carolina Pines/Stately Pines have no desire and will not support any effort to be part of the Havelock taxpayer community. Why would our commissioners, in their infinite wisdom, ever seriously consider establishing recreational facilities outside the currently established city limits of Havelock? There is land available for these facilities within the currently established city limits. It seems to me this is another example of champagne taste on a beer budget.
Our commissioners should insist expensive proposals such as this be brought before the registered voters of Havelock for approval.
