Editorial: Recognizing and honoring students

Published: Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at 07:57 PM.

A lot of space in today’s edition is devoted to students at Havelock area schools.

We have an entire special section saluting the Havelock High state championship football team. We also have honor roll lists as well as pictures from Christmas celebrations at some area schools.

Talented students at Havelock High School made sweet music during a pair of holiday concerts — one for chorus and one for the band — helping put all in the Christmas mood.

Beyond that, we know students have been doing good things through the holiday season, helping feed families at Thanksgiving with various food drives and helping adopt families during this Christmas season.

Others have been outside at Walmart helping the Salvation Army ring bells. Still some students gave the most precious gift of all — the gift of life through a blood drive at Havelock High.

Though we can’t recognize all of them by name, we certainly would like to take this opportunity to honor all the efforts of our students, whether they’re in this edition or not.

And we know their efforts would not be possible without caring parents and teachers who guide our children and shape their values so tomorrow can be a better day than today.
