Don't forget about Havelock basketball team

Havelock put up 37 points in that first quarter and went on to a 104-64 victory, the first time in head coach Bill Fryczynski’s 13-year coaching career at Havelock that he had a team top the century mark.

“This was just amazing,” Fryczynski said after the game.

The Rams are scheduled to host West Craven tonight in their final regular-season home game, a game that could lock up the Coastal 3A Conference championship and an undefeated league season.

“It makes me nervous,” Fryczynski said, “but I am confident in these guys.”

Next week, Havelock will host at least one game as part of the Coastal 3A Conference tournament, and in two weeks, the playoffs begin with the chance of a home playoff game depending on the final standings and seedings.

There is no way of predicting the future. The players would like nothing better than to win a state championship in basketball for the school that has found so much success on the football field.

Either way, these players deserve as much fan support as the football team. You would be wise to check out a game. After all, something special is happening on the hardwood at Havelock High. You shouldn’t want to miss it.
