I was absolutely shocked last week when Nancy Pelosi said something true. I’ve never heard such from her before, and may not again, so I didn’t want to pass up the opportunity to congratulate her.
It was a small item but caught my ear, given the source. Pelosi was speaking of the current debate going on relating to the approaching "fiscal cliff." She noted elections have consequences and Republicans lost.
Bingo! She’s dead-on right.
So here cometh those consequences. Taxes are going up. The open sore of unemployment will keep oozing. We conservatives can get over it.
The United States will languish under the weight of the victor’s boot, and I hope "languish" is the extent of it. However if President Obama manages to spend fast enough and interest rates tick upward as they must, it could quickly go critical.
So we losers are expected to grab our ankles and grit our teeth. There’s no way that this administration will agree to anything that alters its socialist trajectory. Karl is on the march and he’s singing, "Forward!"
He must really love poor people because he’ll be making a pile of them. Now Democrats enjoy a "please don’t throw me in the briar patch" situation. If they do nothing, all taxes rise. It’s pure Elvis. They want it, they need it and they love it.
To grant the president due credit, he’s only doing what he said he’d do. "We the People" chose to let him reload, so we’re now watching political Kabuki Theater as the mighty winner smites we lowly losers into our proper place of subservience.
Obama won a Pyrrhic victory but not by his arithmetic because the country can’t suffer any costs he values above political expediency. We’ll see. There’s a fat lady somewhere.
For the present it’s a dead issue. It is what it is and no volume of rants and recriminations will change anything, yet talking heads are still everywhere; they’re everywhere!
All news broadcasts, bulletins on the Internet and every newspaper headline is about the "cliff." I know it’s very serious, but we won’t know how it’s going to play out until the "Boss" finishes moon-walking and fist-pumping.
Then he’ll tell us, possibly during an appearance on "The View" or "David Letterman." I’ll check my local listings.
If any substantive deal gets done, it won’t be driven by love of country but rather polling and party ramifications. It’s politics. Red, white and blue has become black and blue.
To whom and to what have we surrendered our nation? Is the national audience that obtuse? Thankfully rhetorical questions aren’t explosive. Boom!
I’ve even avoided watching Bill O’Reilly lately. I like him but current political mumbo-jumbo offends my loser’s ears. Holy candidate, some are even jabbering about the next presidential election!
I’ve got a flash. Everybody should wait to see just how bad it gets. Much of the American fabric might be unrecognizable by 2016.
In the meantime insert the tube, Nancy. America has a lot of "consequences" on the way.
