Havelock board to meet
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Havelock commissioners are scheduled to discuss a coastal environmental plan, a new fuel program for city vehicles, new computer software and water and sewer issues at a work session scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday at City Hall.
Commissioners are scheduled to receive a presentation on the city Coastal Area Management Act Land Use Plan by consultant Matt Noonkester. The plan is required of 20 coastal counties and the cities within those counties under CAMA and sets up a path for long-term growth in the city.
A public hearing must be held before approval of the plan, which must be sent to the N.C. Division of Coastal Management by July 31. The hearing is expected on July 28.
City staff is recommending the disposal of the current gas tank system in favor of a Fuel Man Program. The city's gas pump system was damaged by lightning, and commissioners could declare the system as surplus and sell it in favor of the new program.
Commissioners are also scheduled to discuss new computer software and a phone system. The board is expected to get an update, with a demonstration scheduled for Aug. 1.
The board is also expected to discuss possible acquisition of the Greenfield Water system, which has been an ongoing discussion for years, as well as a sewer service agreement with New Bern. A draft proposal of the agreement is expected soon, according to city documents.
