Newport woman identified as driver in Thursday's Main Street wreck
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Havelock Police have identified a Newport woman as the driver in a single-vehicle accident this morning on Main Street.
Kimberly Case, 28, of Newport, was the driver of a 2000 Ford Taurus that crashed at 8:15 a.m. in front of L3 Communications, according to Police Chief G. Wayne Cyrus.
Cyrus said Case apparently had a medical emergency that caused her to lose control of the vehicle.
Case was driving westbound on U.S. 70 when her vehicle went off the right side of the road, then back across the two westbound lanes, crossed the center median and two eastbound lanes before going into a ditch and colliding head on with a culvert.
Cyrus said that from the first indication of the vehicle leaving the road, Case travelled 452 feet before coming to rest.
Case was not injured in the accident but, due to her medical emergency, she was transported first to Carolina East in New Bern and then flown by East Care to Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
She has since been discharged from the hospital.
“It is unfortunate that she was involved in the accident but we are lucky that no other motorists or pedestrians were injured due to the circumstances in the accident,” Cyrus said.
Cyrus said that at this time it doesn’t appear that there will be any charges filed.
