1. Lumbee Genealogy Symposium: The Museum of the Southeast American Indian at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke will host a Lumbee Genealogy Symposium Oct. 3-5. The cost is $25 and includes meals and copies of research. A community bus tour will be held Oct. 3. The bus will leave from the Grace P. Johnson Stadium parking lot at 2 p.m. All other activities will be at the museum at Old Main. Sessions begin at 9 a.m. The event aims to bring together research and resources and discuss family trees and related topics. Presenters include scholars and family researchers. 2. Ghostly Kayak: Lake Rim Park will host the event Oct. 19 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Paddle along a remote lake after the sun goes down for a spooky night on the water. There will be stories told on the water. Children 15 and under must be accompanied by a participating adult. The cost is $20 per person. For more information, call 910-433-1018.
3. Christmas Bazaar: The annual Christmas Bazaar at Heritage Square, 225 Dick St., is scheduled for Oct. 5-6. There will be Christmas decorations, gift baskets, vintage animated items, lights, books and artwork. New and gently used Christmas items will be on sale for this fundraiser, with proceeds going to the preservation of Heritage Square. Hours on Oct. 5 are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; hours on Oct. 6 are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Sandford House. For information, call 910-483-6009.
