Rivertowne offered this overview.
“When this show made its London debut, it was hailed as the most exciting thing to have happened to the English musical theatre in years, a Liverpudlian West Side Story. It then went on to run to sold-out audiences for more than 20 years, winning every possible award. It's Broadway opening starring Petula Clark and Sean and David Cassidy was an enormous success.”
“This show tells the story of twin boys born to a working class divorced mother of three who simply cannot afford more mouths to feed and is persuaded to sell one of the twins to her employer,” said Director Harry Harvey. “Subsequently, the boys grow up on opposite side of social class, one in poverty and the other to a very wealthy family. At 7 years old the boys meet and form a firm friendship becoming blood brothers without ever knowing of their fraternity.”
The theater release added, “The musical follows the boy’s story through their teenage years into adulthood, they share the joys and pain of growing up and falling in love with the same girl. This show will have audiences laughing and crying in equal measure, and the lyrical and melodic beauty will linger in the memory long after the final curtain.
“The musical also has one of the finest endings ever written for a show and long-standing ovations are a norm.”
Harvey added, “I am thrilled to once again be able to introduce our audiences to this exciting show and even more to be working with such a talented cast and crew, for which we are enormously blessed here in New Bern.”
The production team includes Harvey, Musical Director Frederick Angoco and Producer Kristine Boccia.
