Q: I’m handicapped, and look forward to going to the new downtown ballpark. In the artist’s rendering it looks as if the restrooms are at the far end of the field. Are there going to be restrooms in the seating area so that handicapped people can get to them easily? I saw them pouring concrete, and it does not appear to me that there will be facilities in or near the stands. How does this work with the Americans with Disabilities Act? Shouldn’t they make sure there are adequate restrooms before they pour too much concrete? — J.S., Hope Mills
A: The baseball stadium is being built in the 400 block of Hay Street next to the Prince Charles Hotel.
The outfield restrooms will be one of four locations in the stadium for bathroom facilities, according to Kristoff Bauer, who is Fayetteville's deputy city manager.
The park is fully compliant with all codes and regulations, he said in an email, with plenty of diverse opportunities for individuals with special needs.
A Class A Carolina League affiliate of the world champion Houston Astros will play ball in the $37.8 million stadium for the next 30 years starting in 2019. The city and the Astros signed the pact in 2016.
