Theater productions, Taste of Core Sound among events
1 Coastal Railroaders Train Show
The 23rd annual Train Show by the Carolina Coastal Railroaders is slated for Saturday and Sunday at the New Bern Riverfront Convention Center.
Shows times are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $7 for adults and children under age 12 are admitted free.
It will include operating layouts in many scales, including the Thomas the Train and Friends.
More than 90 vendor tables will be selling all types of model railroad equipment. The show also features food concessions and hourly door prizes.
2 Local theatrical productions
New Bern Civic Theatre concludes The Wiz this week, and the RiverTowne Players begin production of Chicago.
Chicago, The Musical will open Friday at the Historic Masonic Theatre, at 514 Hancock St., New Bern. It is directed by Derek Jordan, the musical director is Anne Marie Skogsbakken and it is produced by Nancy Hitchcock.
Show dates are Friday and Saturday, and March 2, 3, 9, 10 at 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday and March 4 at 3 p.m.
Tickets are $16 in advance and $19 at the door, with students admitted for $10. Go online to rivertowneplayers.org.
New Bern Civic Theatre, 414 Pollock St., concludes production of The Wiz on Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
The Civic show is directed by John Van Dyke, produced by Alexandra Raneiri, with musical direction by Brandon Banks.

Orchestra advance seats are $20, orchestra at the door are $22 and students and active duty military will be admitted for $12. Balcony advance tickets are $17, balcony at the door are $19 and balcony student and active duty military tickets are $10. Tickets are plus-tax.
3 Carolina Chamber Music Festival
The Carolina Chamber Music Festval, celebrating 15 years in New Bern, continues this week.
After Work - Musical Legacy is the 6 p.m. Thursday program at the Bank of the Arts in downtown New Bern, with $25 admission.
The Festival Finale is Saturday at the Bank of the Arts, with a 6:30 p.m. pre-concert discussion with CCMF Composer-in-Residence Reza Vali. The program begins at 7 p.m.
There is $35 general admission. A two-concert ticket package including admission to both Thursday and Saturday concerts is available for $55.

4 Astronomy Night
Cape Lookout National Seashore has scheduled Astronomy Night from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the visitors center at the end of Harkers Island.
Telescopes will be available or those interested can bring their own. Those attending are advised to dress for the weather.

5 Winter Taste of Core Sound
The Winter Taste of Core Sound is scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Core Sound Waterfowl Museum and Heritage Center at Harkers Island.
The event celebrates the old hunting clubs and camps of Core Banks with a dinner that includes fresh seafood and wild game including oysters, stewed redheads, scallop fritters and cornbread.
Decoy collector and historian Doily Earl Fulcher will provide the program.
Tickets are $50 for members and $65 for non-members.
