1. Havelock Christmas movie

The city of Havelock has scheduled a Christmas movie event at 6 p.m. today at the Havelock Parks and Recreation Center off Fontana Boulevard.

The featured movie will be “The Smurfs A Christmas Carol.” Admission is free.

2. Christmas show

“Santaland Diaries and Santa Responds” is scheduled Friday and Saturday at The City Laundry, 901 Pollock St., New Bern.

The 8 p.m. shows have a $10 cover.

Jody Bledsoe returns to the stage as Crumpet the elf in Macy’s Santaland. It is based on the true chronicles of play-write David Sedaris’ experiences. This cult classic riffs on some of his truly odd encounters during the height of the holiday crunch.

In Act II Jody will return in Santa Responds. After receiving millions of letters from children all over the world, Santa finally writes back. And he’s being brutally honest.

The Santaland Diaries and Santa Responds are not recommended for children. They contain mature content and language.

Dinner is not included with ticket price.

The doors open at 6 p.m.

3. Holiday arts

The Craven Arts Council & Gallery continues special hours at 317 Middle St. at the Banks of the Arts, with performances, and workshops for the 2017 holiday season.

These events are meant to provide the public with free, open events that celebrate and unwind the holiday season while enriching the cultural atmosphere of New Bern.

Craven Arts Council will extend its Friday hours to 8 p.m. during the rest of the month. Friday brings a performance by Alisa Mike at 6:30 p.m. Flute and Piano performs Saturday at 2 p.m.

Craven Arts will also be hosting kids craft workshops on Saturdays leading up to Christmas. These workshops will be hosted twice, at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., for one hour. Instructors will demonstrate and assist in children creating upcycled ornaments, candy cane holders, and paper toys.

All holiday performances and workshops are free to public.

4. Beaufort Holiday Stroll and Food Tour

A Holiday Stroll and Food Tour is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. weekdays and Saturdays in Beaufort through Dec. 30.

The event features five stops along the culinary walking tour, including three restaurants, a holiday wine tasting and olive oil pairings at a chef-inspired kitchen store. It includes a stroll through the historic district where homes will be decorated for the holidays.

The cost is $69 per person which includes tour, the guide, appetizer, entrée, dessert, wine tasking, some non-alcoholic beverages, taxes and restaurant gratuities.

5. Aquarium tour

The N.C. Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores has scheduled a Behind the Scenes tour from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Those attending will get a chance to visit the labs and holding areas, helping with food preparation and feed the animals. The tour includes both the fresh water and salt water exhibits as well as the Living Shipwreck exhibit.

The cost is $20 for those ages 8 and older.
