Havelock man, New Bern man face murder charges

Two men have been arrested and charged in the 2015 shooting death of a Dover man.

Joshual Joel Duncan, 24, of 109 Trinity Drive in New Bern, and Alexander Rashaad Malone, 24, of 1012 Locust Court in Havelock, have each been charged with an open count of murder in connection with the death of Robert Wayne Tripp, 27, on July 14, 2015, according to the Craven County Sheriff’s Office. The two were arrested without incident on Tuesday in New Bern.

Duncan and Malone made first court appearances on Wednesday in Craven County District Court and are being held in the Craven County Jail without bond, according to the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office did not release a motive in the case or details on the investigation that led to the arrests of the two men.

Tripp was found dead outside of his 1207 Dover-Fort Barnwell Road residence around 12:30 p.m. on July 14, 2015. Family members found his body after he failed to show up for work that morning and did not answer phone calls.

Tripp was found about 100 yards from his residence in a wooded area. He was shot multiple times, according to the sheriff’s office. Tripp lived alone, and family members at the time reported that several items appeared to be missing from the house.

According to court records, Duncan has several other cases pending, including misdemeanor possession of stolen goods/property; breaking or entering to terrorize/injure; misdemeanor assault on a female; and a few driving citations such as expired registration and failure to wear a seat belt.

Malone has no other pending criminal cases, according to court records.
