The 10U Havelock Girls Softball League competed in the Babe Ruth District 5 Fastpitch softball tournament held in Newport last week, winning the championship the hard way.
The tournament was a double elimination tournament. Havelock 10U lost their first game against New Bern 12-10 which dropped them to the losers bracket.
The Havelock team fought back out of the losers bracket by beating out Swansboro 29-9 and Newport 15-3.
This led Havelock to having to play three games on Sunday, June 18 to have a shot at the championship.
The Havelock girls played New Bern, who had also dropped to the losers bracket.
Havelock won 11-10. This advanced Havelock to play Down East in the championship game.
Havelock won the first game, which forced an "IF" game since Down East was undefeated until this point. Havelock won the second game as well, 15-4, to become the 2017 Babe Ruth District 5 Champions.
