HAVELOCK — E. Carlton (Carl) Melvin, Jr., 84, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, June 17, 2017. The son of Addie Gladys Capps and Edice C. Melvin was born in the Ammon Community, Bladen County, NC. Carlton had a deep love of God and Country. With a childhood passion of flying, he had a successful career as a pilot in the Marine Corps and retired from the USMC Reserves as a Major. Carlton enjoyed being a private flight instructor spending many happy hours in his plane. He was a devoted member of his church having served as a deacon, the Sanctuary choir, and years as a devout student of the Bible having taught Sunday School for a number of years. A man of few words, but a deep thinker with a unique sense of humor shared with family and friends.

Carlton was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and infant daughter, Robyn Ashley Melvin. He is survived by his best friend and wife, Nancy Scott Melvin, of Havelock, NC; his son, John David Melvin, of Colorado; his sister Barbara M. Strickland, of Raleigh, NC; his stepsons, Jeff Taylor, of New Bern, NC; Dr. Jay Taylor, of Columbia, SC; former daughters in law, TJ Garcia, of Beaufort, NC, Jennifer Prescott, of Paradise, CA, and his grandsons Forrest and Ryan Melvin of Paradise, CA; step-granddaughters, Erin and Elena Taylor, of New Bern, NC., five great grandchildren, nieces and nephew.

The family will receive family and friends, 6-8 PM, Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at Pollock-Best Funeral Home and celebration of life service will be l:00 PM, Thursday, June 22, 2017 at First Baptist Church of Havelock with Dr. Donald Hadley and Rev.
