Fort Macon to celebrate Earth Day
1. Spring Fun Fest
The Craven County Jaycees Spring Fun Fest continues through Sunday at the Craven Fairgrounds between New Bern and Havelock. Gates open at 6 p.m. weekdays, 11 a.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday. Gate admission for children with a paid adult is free. Gate admission is $5, with wristbands for unlimited rides available for $20, or $15 with a $5 coupon that is available on the Craven County Fairgrounds Facebook page. 2. Tryon Palace Easter Egg Hunt
An Easter Egg Hunt is set for 10 a.m. Saturday at Tryon Palace in New Bern. Children ages 12 and under are eligible with three egg hunts throughout the day at 11 a.m., and 12:30 and 2 p.m. There will also be a special area on the Daves House Lawn for pre-K children to play, hunt for eggs, and meet the Easter Bunny. Age categories will be divided into 4 and under, 5 to 8, and 9 to 12. Each participant will receive a goody bag full of candy, toys, and more after the hunt. Ticket prices are $6 for adults, $3 for youth 13 to 18 and free for children 12-and-under. Space is limited and preregistration is recommended for all tickets, including free tickets for the egg hunts. All tickets include a Gardens Pass that grants access to the Palace gardens any time from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call 639-3500.
3. Fort Macon Earth Day Celebration
Fort Macon State Park in Atlantic Beach has scheduled an Earth Day Celebration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will feature various booths and displays. Inside the fort, Cannon Day events are scheduled with live cannon demonstrations at 10:30 and 11:30 a.m. as well as 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. For more information, call 726-3775 or go online to www.beauforthistoricsite.org.
4. Beaufort Historic Association egg hunt
The Beaufort Historic Association has scheduled its annual Easter Egg Hunt from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Historic Site at 130 Turner St., Beaufort. The free egg hunt is open for children ages 7 and younger. For more information, call 728-5225 or go online to www.beauforthistoric.org.
5. Joe Brown Band, The Sunday Special to perform
The Joe Brown Band and The Sunday Special will play Friday at The City Laundry, 901 Pollock St., New Bern. Joe Brow Band is from New Bern and Sunday Special hails from Raleigh. Sunday Special offers a blend of R&B, funk, jazz and soul. Joe Brown Band will be kicking off the evening with musical stylings driven by the gospel-influenced keys of Joe Brown. This free-flowing soul crew s traverses through decades of popular music ranging from Bill Withers to Sam Cooke to modern top 40s jams. Showtime is 9 p.m. with $7 admission.
