The new parking garage at Asheville Regional Airport is on schedule to be completed and operational just before the Thanksgiving holiday, officials said Monday.

Prefabricated concrete panels are being assembled by crane. Once the overall structure is in place, significant interior work will begin.

When finished, the five-story parking garage will include 1,300 parking spaces.

Two hundred spaces will be used by on-site rental car companies for a sub-ground-level ready-return lot.

The remaining 1,100 spaces will be available for passengers and visitors to the airport.

In total, the parking garage will add a net 800 customer spaces to the airport´s existing parking, bringing the number of available public spaces to more than 2,200, which poises the airport to manage projected growth for many years, officials said.

The garage is located directly in front of the airport’s main entrance, and will include a covered walkway from the garage to the terminal.
