Children with matches believed to be behind blaze
Children playing in a back room with matches resulted in a fire that heavily damaged a mobile home in the Clubfoot Creek Trailer Park.
The fire at the 128 Clubfoot Creek Road, Lot 42, was called in at 7:15 a.m. Wednesday, according to firefighter John Keeter. Firefighters were on the scene for about three hours.
Keeter said the fire was confined to one bedroom in the mobile home, where damage was severe, while the rest of the trailer had smoke damage.
“It’s unlivable,” he said. “The park manager was in the process of trying to relocate them to another trailer in the park” when firefighters left.
Keeter said the family broke out the window of the burning room then got a neighbor’s hose and were fighting the blaze when firefighters arrived.
One resident suffered a minor injury when his leg was cut by glass. He was treated at the scene.
