No immediate plans for Cookout to build in area
The signs have all been removed except for one typed on a piece of paper on the front door: “Closed, sorry for the inconvenience. Please visit our other location.”
The Burger King at 540 U.S. 70 West in Havelock has closed. The Burger King location at 102 East Main St., at the intersection with Miller Boulevard, remains open.
Carrols LLC of Syracuse, N.Y., owns the closed restaurant and messages left at the office were not returned by press time. However, a person reached at the East Main Street Burger King did say the restaurant’s closure would be permanent.
Carrols LLC also owned a Burger King in Grantsboro that also recently closed.
The Burger King property in Havelock is on an outparcel at the Westbrooke Shopping Center. Including the building, it is valued at $857,800, according to Craven County GIS website.
All signs noting Burger King have been removed from the building, and the tall sign near U.S. 70 has also been removed. Even the drive-through menu is no longer posted. All of the chairs have been stacked upside down on the tables.
The Burger King is located next to an empty parcel that was purchased by Cookout in December for $355,000 from Jackson Family LLC. Tiffany Rich, a spokesman for Cookout, said she was unaware of any immediate plans for the Havelock location.
“We have no information at this time as to whether a Cookout will be placed at this location,” she said Tuesday.
Katrina Marshall, city planner for Havelock, said her office has not received any paperwork detailing any possible construction plans on the parcel.
