Shrine Parade also part of weekend events

1. Friday Feast

Cherry Point United Methodist Church in Havelock has scheduled a Friday Feast at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.

The cost is $10 and includes a dinner of fried shrimp and/or scallops, slaw, hush puppies, dessert and drink.

Take-out plates are available and group reservations will be accepted.

Cherry Point United Methodist Church is located at 103 Methodist Drive across from Havelock Middle School.

2. Bell performance

Christian music singer Jenny Bell is scheduled to perform at 6 p.m. Sunday at Cherry Point Baptist Church in Havelock.

The concert is free, but donations will be accepted.

3. Shrine Parade

The Sudan Shriners Parade is scheduled to begin at noon Saturday in downtown New Bern.

The parade participants line up on George Street and move along Broad and Middle streets to South Front Street. It will feature an array of famous Sudan Shrine motorized units, along with music, clowns and other entertainment.

The Shriners are known for their free financial support of sick and injured children through their various Shriners Children’s Hospitals.

4. Chinese New Year

Oriental’s Celebration of Chinese/Lunar New Year 2017 is set for Saturday in Pamlico County.

The day will start at the Oriental Farmers Market at 8:30 a.m. on Hodges Street near the Town Dock. Peter Chang from the Great Wall Restaurant in Grantsboro will conduct a discussion session and demonstration on using and cooking with a wok. He will have sessions at 10 and 11 a.m. Samples will be available.

At 3 p.m., there will be a Dragon Run on Hodges Street. The public is invited to the free event. Bring your pots and pans and make some noise.

5. WinterFeast

Tryon Palace’s WinterFeast oyster roast is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Friday at the N.C. History Center, 529 S. Front St., New Bern.

The event will include steamed oysters, chowders, shrimp and grits, and jambalaya prepared by local chefs. Beverages of all types will be available.

This indoor/outdoor event will include a cash bar. Entertainment will include music by a DJ and games.

Tickets are $45.
