Money would go toward Slocum Creek park

The business in the Havelock Board of Commissioners was completed in lightning fast fashion on Monday night.

Board members approved a contract for a Coastal Area Management Act waterfront access grant award for the Slocum Creek Park project in the amount of $181,000. Broken down, the CAMA portion will be $135,500, while the city will contribute $28,000 in cash and $17,500 of in-kind contributions.

The grant will go toward paying for restroom facilities, patio improvements, a direct pathway to the existing kayak launch and utilities work at the park facilities located off Church Road at Slocum Creek.

The park officially opened last month after months of delays.

In other business Monday night, the board:

-- appointed Elizabeth Smith to a term on Havelock Library board.

-- appointed Patricia Josker to a term on the Havelock Appearance Commission.

-- held a closed session to discuss possible property acquisition but took no action in open session afterwards.
