Parade and sledding on tap for weekend

1. Morehead City Christmas

Morehead City has scheduled its Christmas parade for Saturday.

The parade is scheduled for 11 a.m. and the route is along Arendell Street. It includes a variety of floats and bands, and an appearance by Santa.

2. Gingerbread Festival

The annual Crystal Coast Hospice House Gingerbread Festival is scheduled from Friday through Sunday at the Crystal Coast Civic Center in Morehead City.

Entries will be on display and open for public viewing from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday with no admission charge.

A ticketed Preview Party with music by the Soul Shakers is scheduled for Friday.

A ticketed Cookies and Cocoa with Santa, with holiday crafts, cookie decorating, story time and pictures with Santa, is scheduled for Sunday.

A ticketed Holiday Jazz Concert is set for Sunday evening.

The event raises money for the Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport.

3. Santa by the Sea

The N.C. Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores has scheduled Santa by the Sea from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The event includes Christmas crafts, a magic show, snow sledding and a photo with Santa for the children.

The cost is $6.95 per Santa by the Sea Bag, which includes vouchers for all event activities except sled rides. Sled rides are $2 per sled ride or $15 for 10 sled rides. Taxes are not included.

4. Christmas sledding

The Beary Merry Christmas Sledding is scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the corner of Craven and South Front streets in New Bern.

The event includes a food drive for the Religious Community Services food kitchen.

The Downtown Council of the New Bern Area Chamber of Commerce puts on the event.

5. Oyster Roast

The Backstreet Pub Oyster Roast is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Backstreet Pub in Beaufort.

The event benefits the N.C. Coastal Federation.

The event includes live music, craft beer and free oysters. For every draft beer purchased, $1 will be donated to the federation.
