Celebration scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m. at city park
It’s been confirmed, Santa Claus will be making an appearance at Havelock’s Christmas Tree Lighting Jubilee on Saturday at the Havelock City Park.
The annual event, sponsored by the Havelock Appearance Commission, will get kicked off with a welcome by Havelock Mayor Will Lewis at 3:30 p.m.
Havelock’s Community Band will perform as Santa Claus makes his initial appearance from 3:30 to 3:45 p.m.
Cassandra B, from Havelock Elementary School, will perform from 3:45 to 4 p.m. Lauren Mayberry, from W.J. Gurganus Elementary School, will perform from 4 to 4:15 p.m. David Mills, from Havelock Middle School, will perform from 4:15 to 4:30 p.m.
Dancers led by Mary Beth Beasley from The Center of the Performing Arts will perform from 4:30 to 5:15 p.m.
At 5:15, the final countdown will be given for the officials lighting of the Christmas tree on the southwest corner of park near the intersection of East Main Street and Cunningham Boulevard.
Activities throughout the afternoon will include Christmas cookie decorations and Christmas cards.
Hot chocolate and hot cider will be offered at the sugar cookie booth, and children can get rub-on Christmas tattoos.
After the tree lighting, the animated movie “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” will be shown on the large screen, weather permitting.
According to the National Weather Service, the day will be mostly cloudy with a high of 55 in the afternoon and a low of 42 in the evening.
