Victim recovering in hospital

A Havelock man has been arrested and charged in a Monday evening shooting.

Timothy Reels Jr., 27, of 932 Sunset Drive Lot F was arrested, shortly after the 5 p.m. shooting, according to the Craven County Sheriff’s Office. Reels lived at the mobile home address where the shooting occurred.

The victim, whose name was not released, is recovering at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, according to the sheriff’s office. The victim, a landlord, was attempting to evict Reels at the time of the shooting.

A sheriff’s spokesman said an argument broke out between the two and escalated to the point where Reels pulled out a gun and shot him twice.

Cheyenne Price, who with her husband treated the victim at the scene while waiting for an ambulance, said the victim was a 22-year-old man who came to them seeking help.

“He was shot twice, once in the pelvic area and through the right butt cheek and then the other was in the arm,” she said. “It ricocheted off the bone.”

Price’s husband is a Marine with basic first responder skills.

Reels, who is on probation, fled the scene but was located with the help of probation officers. He was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill and had a first appearance before a judge on Tuesday morning.

He has been jailed under a $5 million bond.
