A Havelock man was arrested over the weekend at an Orlando, Florida, water park and accused of groping two teenage girls.
Roy Louis McCormick, 32, is charged with two counts of lewd and lascivious molestation of two victims between the ages of 12 to 15, according to an arrest affidavit provided by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. The offenses allegedly occurred at Aquatica on Sunday.
At about 1 p.m., one of the victims was on the “fast lazy river” called Roa’s Rapids when she felt a hand on her buttocks. The victim turned and identified McCormick as the offender, according to the affidavit. Another teen on the attraction also was allegedly touched by McCormick on her buttocks.
An older person in the group reported the incident to a lifeguard, who confronted McCormick. One of the victims told police that “he creeped me out” and explained that McCormick was alone at the park, according to the affidavit. She advised further that “the river was not crowded and there was no reason for him to accidentally touch her.”
The second victim told an investigator that she was swimming on her stomach when she saw McCormick reach out and grab her buttocks on the top of her swimsuit, according to the affidavit. She described the contact as a “squeeze” and that she made eye contact with McCormick.
McCormick was described as an “annual pass holder” at the water park and reportedly visited the park several times during 2016, according to the affidavit.
McCormick was arrested and taken to the Orange County Jail. He was given a $4,000 bond and made a first appearance Monday on the allegations, according to the sheriff’s office.
According to the N.C. Department of Corrections, McCormick has a conviction in 2011 for assault inflicting serious bodily injury in Craven County, a conviction in 2009 for larcenies in Onslow County and felony larceny in Wake County, and a conviction for assault with a deadly weapon in Craven County in 2006.
