Officials silent on name of establishment

Havelock appears to be getting a new restaurant, but officials are quiet on the name.

“I know that there is a company associated with a particular restaurant that is buying and trying to subdivide a piece of property in Havelock, but we don’t have any official plans or anything like that at the city for a new restaurant,” said Mayor Will Lewis.

Developer Jeremy Jackson confirmed that a tract of land is being sold to make way for construction of a new restaurant at Westbrooke Shopping Center. He, too is not revealing the name.

“I have an out parcel under contract, and it’s for a fast-food restaurant,” Jackson said.

The property is to the southeast of the Burger King at the corner of Catawba Road and U.S. 70 on Havelock’s west end.

“To the right of where Burger King is, there is a grass lot there,” Jackson said. “There is an asphalt drive that cuts up the middle. The lot on the other side of that asphalt drive that leads to Burger King, that’s the parcel that we’re looking at. It’s about six-tenths of an acre.”

He said he has no scheduled date for the completion of the transaction.

“I don’t have a timeline yet,” Jackson said. “It would be a purchase. They are under their due diligence now. I believe that they are working with the city at this point to get all the permitting and stuff like that.”

Havelock City Planner Katrina Marshall said her office had received no plans or permit requests for the site.
