The old Roses space in Westbrooke Shopping Center in Havelock may soon be a satellite office for engineers and other workers from Fleet Readiness Center East.

Jeremy Jackson confirmed last week that the space recently occupied by Roses and adjacent office spaces will be leased by for office space by the Department of Defense.

The area is approximately 31,944 square feet of space and is owned by Jackson Family LLC.

According to Gregory D. Andrews, from the Officer of Communications and Marketing in the Atlanta offices of the U.S. General Services Administration, the site will be renovated for the Department of Defense, Commander Naval Air Systems Command.

Andrews could not reveal the contract price.

“In order to preserve the integrity of the procurement process, GSA policy prohibits the disclosure of the contract amount until the award has been finalized,” Andrews said.

The lease will be for an initial five year firm term with the option of five one-year renewals, Andrews said.

It isn’t clear what type of work will be required to make the space suitable for the lease.

“GSA is working closely with the DOD and the Lessor to develop a design that meets the specific space requirements of our tenant agency. Once the design is finalized, the Lessor will coordinate the buildout of the space with his construction company,” said Andrews.

Andrews said the buildout of the space is tentatively scheduled to begin in October this year.

“Government is expected to occupy the space as soon as Jan. 2017,” Andrews said.
