Horace Talmadge Cowell Sr.
Horace Talmadge Cowell Sr., of Reelsboro, died Sunday, Oct. 30, 2011, at his home.
He was born in Alliance, on March 15, 1927. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War. He retired from civil service at Cherry Point in 1982 with 37 years of service. His hobbies included woodworking and gardening. He was a member of Reelsboro United Methodist Church and was a 32nd degree Mason with Lodge No. 479, Arapahoe, a member of Scottish Rite and a Shriner.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Reelsboro United Methodist Church with the Revs. Joe Parker, Charles Pollock and Walter Graves officiating.
Burial with military honors will follow at Sandhill cemetery.
He is survived by two sons, Horace Talmadge Cowell Jr. of Minnesott Beach and David Michael Cowell of Ernul; two sisters, Elizabeth Mae Jones of Washington and Mary Delila Morton of Beaufort; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. prior to the service Wednesday at the church and at other times at the home at 5775 N.C. 55 East in Reelsboro.
Memorials may be made either to the Sanctuary Fund, Reelsboro United Methodist Church, Holland Drive, New Bern, NC 28560, to the charity of one’s choice or to Hospice of Pamlico County, P.O. Box 959, Bayboro, NC 28515.
