What inspires you to teach?
I have always loved working with children, but I really love the look on their faces when they realize they really have learned something. There is no better feeling.
What do you find most challenging about your profession?
Teaching is a very challenging profession, but that is one thing I love about it. You always have to get flexible and adapt to new situations. I am always learning.
How long have you been teaching?
I started in January of 2011.
Where did you attend grades K-12?
I went to elementary school at St. Paul’s Education Center in New Bern until the eighth grade. I went to high school at New Bern High School.
Where did you college?
I attended college at East Carolina University.
Who was your favorite teacher when you were a student?
My favorite teacher was Mrs. Hayes, who was my P.E. teacher from kindergarten through eighth grade. I loved her because she had such a positive outlook on life, and she truly loved us for who we were.
What were your favorite and least favorite subjects?
Favorite: English/lanaguage arts
Least favorite: Math
What advice do you give students to ensure their success in the future?
I always tell my students to work hard and always do their best. Most importantly, I tell them to be true to themselves and to be kind to everyone.
What advice do you give parents the most?
To take the time, even if it can only be 10 minutes, to work with their child and challenge them. Also, take the time to enjoy them because they are so precious.
Tell us about your family.
I have an amazing and loving family. My mom, Marie Wise, is my hero and the most wonderful person I know. My siblings and other relatives are a great support system.
Tell us about your hobbies, interests.
I love spending time with my wonderful husband of two years, Matt, and our two labrador retrievers. I also like to watch the Dallas Cowboys play football.
What is your favorite book?
"Heaven is for Real" by Todd Burpo.
