Glen Allen, Va. 3

New Bern 2

After pulling off a last-inning rally on Saturday night, New Bern fell victim to one on Sunday in a 3-2 loss in the Babe Ruth Southeast Regional at the Havelock Recreation Complex.

Glen Allen’s Chesdin Harrington singled to plate the game-winner in the bottom of the seventh, eliminating New Bern.

New Bern took the early lead with a run in the first inning. Chandler Seagle doubled and was knocked in by Brian Bell’s single.

Glen Allen scored twice in fifth on Harrington’s RBI double and Trent Kessler’s sacrifice fly to lead 2-1.

New Bern battled back to tie the score at 2-2 with a run in the top of the sixth. Christian Rust, who drove in the game winner in the seventh against Union County Saturday night, reached on an error, which allowed Anthony Rossi to score from third base.

Miller Mills tossed a complete game for New Bern.

“He pitched well,” said New Bern manager Craig Lewis. “He made solid pitches and we had solid defense behind him.”

New Bern finished in sixth place out of 12 teams at the regional tournament.

“It was good experience for them,” Lewis said. “We had a big turnout and great support. We are already looking forward to next year.”

Glen Allen advances to play Sarasota, Fla., in an elimination game at 1 p.m. Monday.

Childersburg, Ala. 4

ElCiPaCa 3

Childersburg rallied with four runs in the final two innings to eliminate ElCiPaCA 4-3 on Sunday.

Walker Holmes had a two-run single as part of a three-run sixth that put Childersburg ahead 3-2. They got another run in the seventh when Hunter McCain singled and scored on Tyler Jackson’s single.

ElCiPaCa, the eastern North Carolina champions, got a run in the seventh but could not push the tying run across the plate. Joshua Russell drove in two runs for ElCiPaCa, while Drew Williams had an RBI single.

Childersburg advances to play Lawrenceburg, Tenn., in an elimination game at 10 a.m. Monday.

Winchester, Va. 13

Sarasota, Fla. 3

Chase Smallwood pitched five solid innings and drove in three runs to lead Winchester, Va., to a 13-3, five-inning victory over Sarasota, Fla.

Smallwood went 3-for-4 at the plate and also scored twice. David Delwader went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, and three runs scored, while Ryan Hartigan had a two-run single as part of a six-run third inning for Winchester, which added five more in the fourth to take a commanding lead.

Adam Whitacre backed up the pitching of Smallwood with three diving grabs in centerfield.

Sarasota had a 2-1 lead in the first inning, with Darian Dailey smacking an RBI double.

Winchester advances in the winners’ bracket to play Tallahasse, Fla., at 4 p.m. Monday.

Sarasota faces Glen Allen, Va., in an elimination game at 1 p.m. Monday.

Tallahassee, Fla. 7

Lawrenceburg, Tenn. 1

Dylan Payne pitched five solid innings as Tallahassee shut down Lawrenceburg 7-1.

Payne allowed just four hits and one run, as Tallahassee built a lead with a run in the first inning, a run in the second and two in the third.

Blake Reese had two stolen bases and scored twice for Tallahassee, while Connor Jahn added an RBI single.

Tallahassee advances to play Winchester, Va., in a winner’s bracket game at 4 p.m. on Monday.

Lawrenceburg is scheduled to play Childersburg, Ala., in an elimination game at 10 a.m. on Monday.

With a lack of rain at the tournament, games have been moved up in the schedule. The championship game is now scheduled for 4 p.m. on Tuesday. If the losers’ bracket team wins that contest, a second game will follow at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

All games are scheduled for the Havelock Recreation Complex, and admission is free.
