Military family honored

Cpl. Jason R. Murrey receives a plaque from Barb Whiteman, representing the Havelock Chamber of Commerce, as Murrey and his wife, Amy, and 11-month-old son, Vincent, were honored as the military family of the quarter. Murrey works in the Joint Law Center at Cherry Point. Murrey, while performing extra duties, also is attending college and is expected to get a degree in management later this year. He also volunteers in the community as a coach in various youth leagues. During the presentation, Murrey thanked his wife for allowing him the time to volunteer in the community, and said his goal is simply to leave a place better off than when he arrived.
