Mary Giannattasio Bergevin
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Mary Giannattasio Bergevin, 86, of Havelock, died Thursday, March 13, 2008, at Craven Regional Medical center in New Bern following a prolonged period of illness.
Mrs. Bergevin was a devoted mother, grandmother and a great-grandmother. She was very active in their lives. She was formerly in the Women's Marine Corps during World War II and served at Cherry Point. She was also a civil service employee at Cherry Point for many years.
After retiring from Cherry Point, she sold real estate in the Havelock area. She was active in civic clubs and a member of St. Egbert's Catholic Church in Morehead City. After moving back to Havelock from Newport, she changed her membership to Annunciation Catholic Church.
She was an avid cook and baker and was famous for her cheesecakes, which she loved to share with everyone. No one visited her without eating something, usually some form of pasta, and taking some food with them for later. She was well known for her generosity and love of people.
Funeral Mass is 9 a.m. Monday at Annunciation Catholic Church with Father Dan Oschwald officiating.
Graveside services follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park.
She is survived by her husband, Richard A. Bergevin; sons, Richard M. Powers and wife, Donna, of Cary, and Lorren Wilson Jackson and wife, Louise, of Columbia, S.C.; stepsons, Richard Bergevin and wife, Sandra, of Wake Forest, and David Bergevin and wife, Beverlee, of Hixon, Tenn.; eight grandchildren, Judy Powers, Michelle Scozzari, Lisa Rose, B. Chas Parisher, Courtney Verska, Elisa Collins, Matthew Bergevin and Melissa Bergevin; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She is also leaving many friends, with whom she loved spending time, especially around food.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sabot Giannattasio and Maria Michele Ceria of Jeanette, Pa., and her loving brothers, Amadeus Giannattasio and Michael Joseph Giannattasio.
