Workers from the N.C. Department of Transportation begin modifications to the U.S. 70 median across from the highway’s intersection with Ketner Boulevard Tuesday afternoon. The median will be extended to prevent left turns onto U.S. 70 from Ketner Boulevard, where a traffic signal was removed Monday. The Ketner signal was exchanged for the stoplight at the entrance of Wal-Mart at 566 U.S. 70 in Havelock. Transportation officials left the Ketner intersection open for right turns onto the highway and from the highway onto the service road in a compromise with a residents’ group that opposed the Ketner traffic signal’s removal.
