John E. Julian
Comments 0 | Recommend 0John E. Julian, 74, of Havelock, died Monday, Sept. 7, 2009, at Britthaven of Havelock.
He was served nearly 30 years in the Marine Corps. He served as a drill instructor at Camp Pendleton, Calif., received a combat commission to second lieutenant during Vietnam and later achieved the rank of captain, served as station adjutant at New River Air Station, and ultimately retired as sergeant major at VMA-231 at Cherry Point. He also retired from civil service at motor transport at Cherry Point. He was also a member of the Havelock Fire and Rescue Squad from 1975 to 1985, having been Havelock fire chief from 1980 to 1982.
Memorial will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Cherry Point United Methodist Church with Joe Stallings officiating.
He is survived by two sons, John Andrew Julian of Middleburg, Fla., and Phillip Chartel Julian of San Francisco; two sisters, Roberta Kaumeyer and husband Jack of Charlotte, and Judy Julian of Lancaster, Ohio; one brother, Michael S. Julian and wife Pam of Amanda, Ohio; and one granddaughter, Haley Iman Julian.
He was preceded in death by his wife of more than 50 years, Audrey.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Project Compassion, a ministry to U.S. veterans returning from combat, in care of Cherry Point United Methodist Church, 107 East Sherwood Drive, Havelock, NC 28532.
