Veterans memorial unveiled

Havelock Mayor Jimmy Sanders, holding microphone at left, current and former city commissioners and Congressman Walter Jones (R-3rd District) unveil the centerpiece monument of the Havelock Veterans' Memorial Saturday morning. The five-sided China black granite monument is engraved with the emblems of all five branches of the armed forces and is dedicated to Havelock and Cherry Point-area military veterans. The memorial, which includes flags from each military branch and a stone seating wall, is located outside the Havelock Tourist and Event Center off U.S. 70.
