Watch the birdie - we have eggs
About a week after discovering a nest in a flower wreath on my front porch, I am proud to announce that we have eggs.
I am feeling like an expectant parent, waiting for the eggs to hatch.
I still don't know what type of bird has decided to create a home on my front porch. Maybe the eggs are a clue. Some bird lover may be able to tell me by looking at the eggs. If you know, just post a comment to this story.
I can say that I am still trying to capture a good image of the bird to post here on the Web site. When they fly off, they head high up in a tree in my front yard, so it's tough to see them, let alone have them in focus with my camera so high up in the tree.
But, I can try to describe them. They are somewhat small, certainly not nearly as big as a blue jay, robin or cardinal. They are mainly gray in color, though the male has a red tinge on its head and upper body.
At least, I believe it's the male that is red. I'm making this assumption only on the knowledge that the male cardinal is the one that is bright red, while the female is not.
By the way, just so you know, the bird flies off when we open the front door. After peaking in the nest after one of my exits, I noticed the eggs, grabbed the camera and took the picture. Now we are trying to avoid using the front door when at all possible. We don't want to disturb nature at work.
Anyway, I will certainly keep you posted on the progress of my birds and eggs. I have no idea how long it takes a bird egg to hatch, but I will let you know when it does.

| I have the exact same thing going on at my front door!
I was too lazy to remove our Christmas Wreath so I left it there since December. About 2 weeks ago I noticed a bird always flew off when I got near the front door. So yesterday my wife thought maybe a bird was tryign to build a nest on the wreath. And when we looked closer, there is indeed a nest on it! So I grabbed the ladder and checked if it empty, instad I found 5 little eggs. Now the mother bird, not sure if it is the mom or the pop, has been sitting there the whole day today. Some people say it will take 2 to 3 weeks for the eggs to hatch. I will be using my garage to enter or exit my house now. |
