Boys & Girls Club plans week of activities
An after-school club for children and teens is opening its doors to prospective members next week.
Those interested in learning about the Havelock Boys & Girls Club are invited to visit the Webb Boulevard facility for free as members and leaders celebrate National Boys & Girls Club Week Monday through April 4.
"We have a different activity each day to let the community know that the Boys & Girls Club is here," said Gerrod Green, executive director of the Havelock club. "We hope the community comes out and sees what the club is all about. Look at our programs and look and what we have to offer."
A free-admission talent show is planned from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday. Children will perform songs, dances, skits and comedy routines, Green said.
Monday will be mix-and-match day, with members encouraged to wear wacky clothing ensembles. Tuesday is club T-shirt day, and April 2 is military appreciation day. Pajama day is set for April 3, and the week wraps up April 4 with popcorn and movie day.
Daily activities are planned from 3 to 6 p.m. throughout the week.
"You don't need a membership during that week to come in and see what the club is about," said Green. Informal tours of the building will be available during the week, he added.
The 336-member club offers after-school supervision and activities for first-graders through high school seniors. Low-cost annual memberships are augmented by corporate and family sponsors, and the city of Havelock charges $1 per year to lease the club its building.
The Havelock Boys & Girls Club is located at 199 Webb Blvd. more information, call the club at 444-5437.
