Virginia E. Berryman
Virginia E. Berryman, 71, of Newport, died Saturday, March 15, 2008, at home.
She was formerly of Morehead City, Elkin and Alexandria, Va.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Early W. Couch of Morehead City and Virginia C. Davis of Elkin.
Known as Jenny to her friends, she graduated from Morehead City High School. After graduation and some work in private industry, she began her government career at Cherry Point and Camp Lejeune. After three years, she transferred to the Department of Agriculture's forest service in Washington, ultimately working as a realty specialist in the lands staff. She was particularly proud of having helped in the acquisition of about 110 million acres within national forests to be used for recreation, protection of threatened and endangered species and protection of the watershed and from timber production.
She attended American University and Northern Virginia Community College in Annandale, Va., majoring in real estate and business administration.
Her interests included natural resource conservation, golf, music, theater and reading.
No services are scheduled.
