Havelock band places second at Wakefield
Comments 0 | Recommend 0The Havelock High School Marching Rams Band placed second at the Heart of the Carolinas Band Invitational Saturday at Wakefield High School in Raleigh.
Havelock scored a 75.80 to finish second behind Smithfield-Selma High School, which scored an 80.15, in the 4A size classificiation.
Havelock also had the second highest score in the competition overall.
The band’s color guard took first place, while the band earned second-place honors for drum major, percussion, overall effect and visual performance.
Havelock was competing against 14 other bands at the competition, including three in its size classification.
The band was coming off a stellar performance at the West Craven Band Classic in which it swept the competition, earning a superior score and the crowd favorite award and the grand champion award as the highest-scoring band in the competition.
Havelock is scheduled to take a break from its competition schedule this weekend for homecoming.
The Marching Rams are scheduled to return to the field in the Festival of Bands competition Oct. 20 at Fuquay-Varina High School.
The band then competes at the Capital City Expo Oct. 27 at Sanderson High School in Raleigh.
Havelock hosts the Crystal Coast Band Classic on Nov. 3. About 20 high school marching bands from around the state will be competing.
The East Carolina University Marching Pirates are also scheduled to appear for two exhibition performances during the competition.
In its seventh year, the Crystal Coast Band Classic helps raise money for the Havelock High School music program.
