Maxine E. Baker

Maxine E. Baker, 86, of Havelock, died on May 25, 2009.
She was born in Cannelton, West Virginia, on March 13, 1923. She served in the U.S. Marine Corps three years and was stationed in Arlington, Va. She worked for the U.S. Government for 33 years, retiring from the Naval Air Rework Facility at Cherry Point. She was a member of the Havelock community since 1945 and was a life-long member of First United Methodist Church of Havelock.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph L. Baker whom she loved and missed dearly. She was a life time member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7315 Havelock. As a member of the VFW family she served proudly in state department and local VFW Ladies Auxiliary offices for 45 years.
She spent her life in devoting her time to many charities supported by the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW, which included cancer aid, research and Veterans Hospitals throughout the state. Maxine worked diligently in the support of the Armed Forces and Retired Veterans. She was a loving devoted mother to her two girls and will be missed.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda D. Toney and fiancé Richard C.Vaughn of Chesapeake, Va.; Joany W. Pardee and husband Steven J.Pardee of Plano, TX; three grandchildren, Malissa Frenzel and husband John of Oregon; Matthew and Nathaniel Pardee of Plano, TX; and her great grandson, Tyler Johnson. She is also survived by a large VFW family throughout the state and many life-long friends and neighbors.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 26 at First United Methodist Church in Havelock. Internment with military honors will be held at 12 p.m. Monday, June 29, at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville.
Memorial donations may be made to Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary, Post 7315, 120 Lynnwayne Circle, Havelock, N.C. 28532 or the Maxine Baker Memorial Scholarship Fund or to Cancer Aid and Research.
