  • Havelock High School’s club lacrosse team picked up its second victory of the season by beating Northside 8-6 Tuesday night at the Havelock Recreation Complex.
Havelock, competing in lacrosse for the first time this season, was coming off an 11-7 victory on Friday over Greenville Rose, the first victory in the program’s history.
Against Northside, Richard Fischer tallied four goals for Havelock (2-5, 1-2), while Malik Brown added two and Jason Hollister and Kendall Smith one each.
“Everyone played as a team, which is something we hadn’t been doing,” coach Mitch Kominarek said.
James McFadden made 14 saves in goal for Havelock.
“He saved more than went it, and that is always a good thing for a goalie,” Kominarek said. “He really stepped up.”
The victory was Havelock’s second straight after beginning the season with five consecutive losses.
“We’re a new team and we’ve got a lot of young players,” Kominarek said. “The mentality is definitely up beat. Before, we were kind of down and out losing those first five.
“We’ve had a high-school age program in town for about five years, and we had some 11-4 seasons, so the kids were not used to it. They got down after losing five in a row, but winning two in a row has changed their attitude.”
Havelock is next scheduled to play at Greenville Rose on Thursday.
