The Havelock Police Department is investigating a stabbing Thursday morning that led to a man’s death.
Ralph Edward Whitney, 37, died at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville on Friday morning, according to a release from the police department.
Police responded to apartment G-4 in Kelly Park Apartment on Shipman Road around 4 a.m. Thursday after receiving a 9-1-1 call about an intruder, according to the release. The caller indicated that her husband had confronted a male intruder and had stabbed him. When officers arrived, the victim had left the apartment but they followed a blood trail, finding Whitney alive but unresponsive outside building C of the nearby Eastwood Apartment Complex.
Havelock rescue personnel transported Whitney to CarolinaEast Medical Center in New Bern, and he was later sent to Vidant in Greenville, where he died, according to the release.
No charges have been filed in the case, but Havelock police and the Craven County District Attorney’s Office are interviewing witnesses and analyzing evidence as the investigation continues, according to the release.
Havelock police are withholding the names of those living in the apartment where the stabbing took place.
