Craven County Schools will use a mixture of staff development days to make up time when schools were closed during last week’s snowstorm.

Students will be in class on Feb. 17 and March 17, which had been previously scheduled as days off for students. Two other half-days for students have now been turned into full days for students on Feb. 14 and March 14.

The new schedule, approved by the Board of Education, keeps the traditional week off for Easter the same.

Schools were closed for four days last week when a winter storm dropped about 2 inches of sleet and snow on the area.

So far this winter, schools in the county have been closed for five days because of inclement weather, and though just three days are being put back into the calendar, officials said that the school calendar had already exceeded the 1,025 instructional hours set by the General Assembly, so no further make-up days would be required.
