  • On behalf of Craven County Partners In Education and Craven County Schools, I would like to personally thank everyone involved in the success of our “Stuff The Bus” campaign.
Through the generosity of our community, we received over 7,000 school supply items with an estimated value of $6,080. Plus, we received cash donations and sponsorships of $2,000, allowing us to serve over 350 Craven County School children. We also received $3,600 in-kind sponsorships, which helped us to keep our expenses to a minimum.
Thank you to our sponsors who made this event a tremendous success: A Dog’s Dream, The Harold H. Bate Foundation, Coastal Children’s Clinic, Fuel Warehouse, Williams-Scarborough-Smith-Gray CPA, Dr. Todd Rankin, and Century 21 Zaytoun-Raines.
Several businesses also dropped off school supplies as we led up to the event which included Morgan’s Restaurant and Hardison and Hardison CPA. Some were made by anonymous donors, and we thank you.
I would be remiss if I did not thank the Marines who arrived to save the day in Havelock. Not only did they help us “Stuff the Bus,” but they also assisted with the sorting of the items for delivery to the schools. A special thank you to Jennifer Krivohlavy with the Single Marines Program at MCAS Cherry Point for coordinating the Marine volunteers and their transportation to and from the event.
I would also like to thank all of those behind the scenes who played a critical role in the success of this event: Sun Journal, Havelock News, BOB 93.3, and WITN for the coverage; the New Bern Area Chamber of Commerce Minority Business Council, NCAE, and AlphaGraphics, for their partnership; Walmart for allowing us to park the buses in front of the stores in Havelock and New Bern; Chick-Fil-A for the gift coupons; Dianne Lane and Lauren Taylor, our very hard working bus drivers; and all of the volunteers who came out to work the day of the event.
The mission of Stuff the Bus is to serve as many children as possible who have been identified as in-need by their school’s guidance counselor and principal with the needed school supplies they require to succeed in school. These school supplies will give them the tools they need to help keep them on the road to learning.
An investment in Partners In Education is an investment in our workforce, our community, and our future. Good things are happening at PIE!
