  • Thereís something noticeably different about East Carolina receiver Danny Webster.
The Havelock native played through his sophomore season with a knee brace following ACL surgery in 2011.
The brace is now gone, and Webster is looking forward to having a big season.
"Last year, I was giving it all I had, but it wasnít anywhere near to what I have now," said Webster, who caught 34 passes for 322 yards and five touchdowns last year. "Iím excited to get the knee brace off and be back on the field at 100 percent."
Webster is expected to start at inside receiver for the Pirates this upcoming season.
Lincoln Riley, ECUís offensive coordinator, said Webster had the best spring practices of any of the receivers. The former Ram quarterback caught eight passes for 93 yards in ECUís Purple-Gold Spring Game in April.
"We have pretty high expectations for him," Riley said. "Heís come a long way physically and being consistent.
"He is a big part in what we are doing, and he is working at a level that he never has before. He needs to keep it up."
Webster said his role on the team is to "cash in" every time the ball is thrown in his direction.
"Thatís every receiverís role on this team," Webster said. "I want to help block for the running backs and make a play when the ball is thrown my way."
Webster is also listed on the team depth chart as the second punt returner and the third kickoff returner.
ECU opens against Old Dominion on Aug. 31.
