  • Those looking for entertainment in Havelock can find it each Thursday this month as part of the Thursday Night Live series.
Put on by the Havelock Cultural Arts Committee, the concert and performance series takes place from 7 to 9 p.m. each Thursday at the Havelock Tourist and Event Center. Each performance is free and open to the public.
The series kicks off with the Southernaires on Thursday. The Morehead City group plays big band music from the 1940s and 1950s, and has been a part of the series for the last three years.
"Its my kind of music - Tommy Dorsey, Harry James, that kind of thing," said Helen Emerson, who is the chair of the cultural arts committee. "Were going to have an area open to dance. If anyone wants to dance, they can dance."
The Craven Brass Quintet is scheduled to perform on Aug. 8.
Unknown Tongues, a cajun zydeco band, is scheduled to take the stage on Aug. 15.
The Aug. 22 performance will feature the Kaitlyn Belly Dancers, while the Havelock High School Band is scheduled to wrap up the series on Aug. 29.
Emerson said the series has been a part of Havelock for about 30 years and is simply designed to bring a variety of quality entertainment to Havelock.
"I hope the people come on out and visit with us," she said. "Its good entertainment. We run about 75 to 100 people a night, but we cold use more."
The Havelock Cultural Arts Committee is part of the Havelock Parks and Recreation Department.
