  • Two people were taken to the hospital after a three-vehicle wreck Monday afternoon on Miller Boulevard in Havelock.
The crashed involved a Craven Area Rural Transit System van that had been stopped on the road to pick up a passenger.
The crash happened during light rain around 3:30 p.m. in front of a home at 313 Miller Blvd. A black Toyota Forerunner driven by Jeff Erdman of Havelock rear-ended a red Ford Mustang driven by Michael Roy, pushing the Mustang into the back of the CARTS van.
The Mustang had been stopped behind the CARTS van when it was struck by the Forerunner, according to witnesses.
“I bent down to take a sip of my drink and that quick,” Erdman said of the wreck.
A female passenger in the car and one passenger in the CARTS van were taken to CarolinaEast Medical Center in New Bern. Their names and conditions were not immediately available.
“I’m just glad no one was hurt seriously,” said Erdman, who was alone at the time of the wreck.
Erdman refused treatment at the scene.
“I just bought this truck,” he said. “It’s not 30 days old. It’s like there’s no traction on these tires or something.”
The wreck happened in front of Debbie Bannon’s home as the CARTS van was stopped to pick up her son.
“This happens too much,” Bannon said. “People just drive on top of each other. Too close.”
Havelock police are investigating the crash.
