Havelock High School has announced that it will hold its graduation ceremony inside the school gymnasium beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Officials made the decision after consultation with the National Weather Service in Newport. Rain from the Tropical Storm Andrea is unlikely to be out of the area until late Friday or early Saturday, meaning school officials would not have enough time to set up the stage and seating outside at the football stadium for graduation. School officials were also concerned that wet bleachers and conditions from the rain at the stadium could prove to be a safety hazard.

Only those with specific tickets for the indoor ceremony will be allowed entry to the gym. Seniors will be given the tickets during graduation practice on Friday morning.

Seating in the gymnasium is scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m.

Those without tickets can view a live feed of the ceremony inside the school’s Performing Arts Center beginning at 8:15 a.m., but seating is limited to the first 624 people. A live feed of the ceremony will also be available online by going on the Craven County Schools website at www.craven.k12.nc.us.

Parking at the high school will be limited, as many fields around the school normally used for overflow parking will be too wet for vehicles. Extra parking will be available at Havelock Middle School. Carpooling and early arrival is recommended.
