  • Havelock running back Derrell Scott is the son of a retired Marine, so his invitation to the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl carried some special significance.
"I was excited," said Scott, who will be entering his senior season in the fall. "I feel fortunate to have an opportunity to play in an all-star."
The game is scheduled for Anahiem, Calif., but an exact date has not been set. Scott may also have opportunities to participate in the Under Armour All-American Game or the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
Meanwhile, he continues to rack up college scholarship offers, the latest coming from Oregon. Hes trying to keep all the attention in perspective.
"During the season, I try not to think about it and just worry about my team and our goals for the season," said Scott, who ran for 1,709 yards and 34 touchdowns last season. "Now, its the most hectic because were not in the seasons and the coaches are busy trying to talk to you and make an impression."
Scott said he likely wouldnt decide on a college until after his senior season, preparations forwhich are already starting. The Rams are holding spring workout drills at 6:15 a.m. before school starts.
"Its early, but I know what we have to do to be the best," Scott said. "Every year, expectations rise for us, so weve got to get better every year. Its going to be tough, but I would rather make the sacrifice now to get the reward later."
